Description of the technology
We have patented a pH sensor comprising of electrodes which is capable of measuring extremely small volumes without the need for calibration. It is robust and disposable, quick and easy to use and has a very low cost of goods.
The electrodes can be integrated into multiple pieces of laboratory equipment, like pipette tips. The units will be individually vacuum packed and will be useable immediately upon removal from the packaging.
Existing technology
Current pH electrodes are made of fragile glass electrodes which have to be calibrated continuously. This consumes valuable research time and is costly, because relatively large volumes of expensive buffers are required for measurements.
Benefits of our technology
The benefits of our pH sensor are two-fold:
-
It will significantly reduce the time required to take accurate pH measurements, which translates into more efficient use of laboratory scientist's time.
-
It reduces the cost of expensive buffers because much smaller quantities can be measured accurately.
Applications
As a result of our technology's ability to measure exquisitely small volumes, it can be utilised in high throughput screening (HTS) systems and automated sampling systems where microtitre plates are employed.
The new technology will revolutionize the measurement of pH across multiple industry sectors. This could include relatively simple applications like soil testing through to high-end applications like pharmaceutical manufacturing.
